MORE ON Wellness tours in India
  • India is the birthplace of yoga and meditation
  • Obtain complete harmony of body, mind and soul in India
  • Kerala practices Ayurveda in full dedication

Ayurveda or the 'science of longevity' is the Indian system of natural cure. It is known to promote positive health, natural beauty and long life.  The word Ayur literally means ‘life' and Veda ‘science' or ‘knowledge'.  The Ayurveda philosophy is one that suggests how we should live our lives in order to achieve complete balance - ie how we can lead a healthy, happy, comfortable and advantageous life both physically, mentally and socially. Ayurveda also emphasizes that prevention is better than cure.  Kerala's placid attitude, natural abundance of forests (which offer a wealth of herbs and medicinal plants), and the cool monsoon season (June - November) are best suited for Ayurveda's curative and restorative programs.

There are opportunities to practice physical yoga and meditation almost daily in India. Yoga refers to the practice of exercise and controlled breathing to maximize the well being of the body and cure diseases. Meditation is the practice of focused thinking and controlled breathing to reach a state of "nothing", said to be a blissful state free from all worries. In fact, both yoga and meditation are a spiritual practice inherent in every aspect of daily life in India. There are also opportunities to engage in chanting, dharma talks and other traditional rituals throughout India.

India has many Yoga and Meditation Centers spread across the country, from the Ashrams in the Himalayas, to learning centers at Mysore in parts of South India.

In addition, you will also find clubs and ashrams that follow naturopathy. Naturopathy is India's age-old belief that the body must be cleansed from the inside and rested like any other machine to function better and cope with life's myriad stresses. At these places you will find an absolute Spartan lifestyle, no beds, only fruits and soups, day-long relaxing yoga sessions and talks on Indian philosophy.

As well as the traditional methods of wellness in India, you can indulge in a visit to a luxury spa with typically western treatments of massages and treatments throughout the country.
