Why visit Ooty
The Nilgiris are a trekker's paradise. Landscaped by nature, the hills abound in treks for lovers of nature. Ooty offers several trek routes, which vary in distance, altitudes and terrain. There is a base camp at Parsons valley, from where one can start trekking to various points within Western Ghats. The down hills of Western Ghats on the north ends up with meeting the extensions of Eastern Ghats, where the sprawling Mudumalai Sanctuary lies. The botanical garden sprawling over 50 acres lies on the lower slopes of the Dodabetta peak, height of 2623 meters, the highest point in Ooty and the highest peak of the Nilgiri range. The Government Museum at Ooty houses items of tribal objects, districts ecological details and representative sculptural and arts and crafts of Tamil Nadu. Close to Ooty is the Kalhatty Falls where water cascades down a height of 122m. The establishment of numerous tea estates, allows travellers to be greeted by miles of tea gardens. The annual Tea and Tourism Festival is an occasion when tea lovers from all over converge.
