Why visit Arunachal Pradesh
- Over 600 species of orchids found in Arunachal Pradesh.
- Namdapha National Park where all the four big cats are found
The widely scattered archeological remains at different places in Arunachal bear testimony to its rich cultural heritage. There are places of worship and pilgrimage such as Parasuramkund and 400 years old Tawang Monastery, or the sites of archeological excavations like Malinithan and Itanagar. Then the serene beauty of lakes such as Ganga lake or Sela lake or the scenic beauty of the snow-clad silver mountain peaks and lush green meadows where thousands of species of flora and fauna prosper, offer variations. In addition, the State of Arunachal Pradesh offers abundant scope for boating, rafting, trekking and hiking. Besides, there are a number of wild life sanctuaries and national parks with animals, birds and plants that fascinates the eyes. Once a settlement of the Nishi tribe, Itanagar is now the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. A few kilometers north east of Itanagar is Ziro, home to the Apatani tribe who practice a unique system of cultivation that combines rice growing with pisciculture. Daporijo, Along and Pasighat are now open to foreigners with permits. The latter two are in habited by the Adi tribe. In the remote eastern side of the state bordering Myanmar, Namdapha National Park covers 766 square miles. Rising from the plains to 14764 feet in the Himalayas, it covers a variety of habitats and is the only reserve in India where all the four big cats - Tiger, Leopard, Clouded Leopard and the rare Snow Leopard, are found.
