ITINERARY - DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1 : MUMBAI/KAWARDHA On arrival in Mumbai you will be met by an India Safaris & Tours representative and transferred to a city hotel . Later you will be transferred to the domestic airport for your scheduled flight to Raipur. On arrival you will be assisted to your road transfer to Kawardha district for spending one night in a rural farmhouse or an old palace. One overnight in Bhoramdeo Jungle Retreat / Kawardha Palace in a twin bedded room with en suite facilities, on full board basis. Day 2- 4 : KANHA NATIONAL PARK After breakfast you will assisted to your road transfer to Kanha National Park . Our explorations inside the reserve will take the form of a mixture of early morning and evening jeep drives and trips on elephant back. Elephant rides cannot be guaranteed as this depends on the successful tracking of the tiger by the mahouts. Three overnights in a resort / tented camp in a twin bedded room / tent with en suite facilities, on full board basis. Day 5 - 6 : BHORAMDEO JUNGLE RETREAT / KAWARDHA PALACE After the morning park excursion and breakfast you will be assisted to your road transfer to Kawardha for the start of your cultural tour.
Activities will include visiting the 11th century Bhoramdeo Temple, trekking into the beautiful Maikal Hills, and visiting the surrounding Gond and Baiga markets and villages. Day 7 : KANKER PALACE After breakfast you will be driven to Kanker Palace the gateway to ethnic Bastar. Kanker is a small former State immediately to the north of wild Bastar. Your hosts and guides will be members of the Kanker royal family. Kanker's family atmosphere offers visitors a rare chance to enter into the spirit and tradition of an Indian household, albeit one with exceptional history. One overnight in Kanker Palace in a twin bedded room with en suite facilities, on full board basis. Days 8- 10 : JAGDALPUR After breakfast you are driven through forested hills to Bastar. Bastar was once a substantial state, and the majority of its people are from the ethnic indigenous communities of the region. North Bastar is home to the Muria Gond, famous for their mixed dormitory system for the unmarried young. Enroute to the capital of Bastar, Jagdalpur, you will visit a NGO handicrafts project set up at Kumharpara ( Potters' Enclave ) to maintain and develop the traditional arts and crafts of the region. On reaching Jagdalpur you will check into the Naman Bastar Resort. Activities will include guided visits to the country of the Bison-Horn Maria and Dhurwa communities and their weekly markets, the Chitrakote waterfall which is illuminated after sunset, and the Kanger Valley National Park for the stalactite and stalagmite formations in the Kutumsar and Kailash Caves. The best time for the waterfall would be July to November, after which the effects of the monsoon rain start diminishing. Three overnights in Naman Bastar Resort / Bastar Royal Farm in a twin bedded room with en suite facilities, on full board basis. Days 11 - 12 : KANKER PALACE After breakfast you are driven to Narayanpur , principal town of north Bastar. Enroute you will visit a Muria village to see an example of a traditional dance by young members of the ethnic group, and also get an opportunity to taste local food and the home made brew - Mahua liquor and fresh Salfi (palm toddy), two of the favourite drinks of the Bastar people. After visiting Narayanpur, you are driven to Kanker Palace . Two overnights in Kanker Palace in a twin bedded room with en suite facilities, on full board basis. Days 13 - 14 : MUMBAI After breakfast on time transfer to Raipur to catch your scheduled flight to Mumbai. On arrival met and transferred to a city hotel. Activities would include visiting Gateway of India built to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary in 1911, Prince of Wales Museum built to commemorate the visit of Prince of Wales - the future Kind Edwards VII, Victoria Terminus - a historic railway station built in 1888 and now a UNESCO World Heritage site, Mani Bhavan which is a Gandhi memorial now and at one time was the focal point of his political activities, and Elephanta Caves which is located on an island 10 kms from Mumbai and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Two overnights in a city hotel in a twin bedded room with en suite facilities, on room only basis. Day 15 : DEPARTURE You will be transferred to the international airport for your flight back home. Our services end at 12 noon today.
