The journey begins at Delhi which historically consists of seven successive cities, with New Delhi built by the British making an eighth. Delhi is divided into two main parts - Old Delhi, created by the Mughals ; and New Delhi, created by the British. You then move to Amritsar which is the home to the Golden Temple, and is the spiritual and cultural centre of the Sikh Religion. Your jeep safari now commences and your first stop is Dharamsala, the abode of the Tibetan's exiled religious leader, the Dalai Lama. Tibetan influence is very strong out here. The next stop is Manali which is an important hill station in the mountains of Himachal Pradesh. From here your journey to the second highest road in the world begins. You embark on a journey of 474 kms which takes you through high passes to Ladakh, which is the highest altitude plateau region in India. Being in a rain shadow, Ladakh is a high altitude desert. . It is renowned for its remote mountain beauty and Tibetan Buddhist culture; it is sometimes called "Little Tibet". Your safari terminates at the capital of this district, Leh.
