The journey through the temples of northern and central India, allows you to step back in history and appreciate the different architectural styles at different periods. The tour also gives an opportunity to understand the importance of the "temple" in ancient times. The many secrets of India's heritage and its culture lie in the extravagantly sculptured panels of the temple walls. The tour starts from Delhi, a capital city from ancient to modern India. Witness how the past and the present live together in harmony. A visit to the Laxmi Narayan temple gives you insight to a modern day Hindu temple. The journey from the present to the past is not too long, a flight of little more than two hours takes you to Khajuraho. Khajuraho is all about temples and beautifully carved sculptures. Here life in every form and mood has been captured in stone and stands as a testimony to the artisans artistry and the artistic inclination of the Chandela Kings. A drive from Khajuraho brings you to Jhansi, from where you embark on a short train journey to Bhopal. During your stay in Bhopal visit mesolithic period cave paintings at Bhimbetka. Journey from the heart of central India to the hidden treasures in Maharashtra. With a stop in Mumbai travel to the Aurangabad, the gateway to the two UNESCO World Heritage sites - Ajanta & Ellora. The cave shrines at Ajanta are splendid examples of caves paintings, and those at Ellora are among the best examples of rock cut architecture in India. The paintings and sculptures of shrines depict the life of the Buddha from before he was born in human form. There are also shrines belonging to a later date devoted to Lord Shiva, thus showing a shift in the religious beliefs of society. The tour ends at the financial capital of India, Mumbai, where you also get to visit the Elephanta caves.
